Script
Rig'n'Roll ENQ Decoder
Turns Rig'n'Roll's ENQ radio files back into MP3 audio.
Overview
Rig’n’Roll stores its radio tracks, callsigns, adverts and news in .enq files. They are MP3 audio underneath, with a repeating XOR layer that the game’s reader removes.
I turned that part of the reader into decode_enq.py, so you can get the radio collection playing outside the game.
Prerequisites
The decoder requires Python 3.12 or newer and uses only the standard library.
Usage
Open PowerShell in the folder containing decode_enq.py, then run it with the path to the game’s Data\FM folder:
1
python .\decode_enq.py "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Rig n Roll\Data\FM"
Change the example path to match your installation. The script searches subfolders too and writes each MP3 beside its ENQ file.
Compatibility
I checked all 199 ENQ radio files from the Steam build covered in the investigation. The resulting MP3s decoded cleanly with ffmpeg. Other releases haven’t been tested.
